Massoud Rajavi, born on August 18, 1948, is a prominent member of the Central Committee of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran and its leader. A law graduate from Tehran University, he joined the organization in 1967 and was arrested by the SAVAK in 1971. Released in 1979 during the Iranian Revolution, Rajavi opposed the principle of velayat-e faqih, leading to tensions with Khomeini. He founded the National Council of Resistance of Iran on July 20, 1981, and later established the National Liberation Army in Iraq. He has been missing since the 2003 Iraq invasion but continues to influence through audio messages.
