She adopted her pen name from her great-grandfather's seafood wholesale business, changing one character to 'Kawa.' Although she prefers her pen name, she continues to use her real name for the first name, which means 'Congratulations.' She made her debut with 'Touring Express' published in the summer issue of Bessatsu Hana to Yume in 1981. Kawasō is known for her contributions to the manga industry.
