Mathias Ahrens is a German hockey coach born on December 22, 1963, in Hamburg. He coached the Scottish national team from 2000 to 2008 and served as an assistant coach for the British national team. His most notable achievement was leading Scotland to qualify for the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. Ahrens began his career as a goalkeeper for the German U18 team and played in the Bundesliga for Klipper THC and Club an der Alster. He has also coached his former clubs and is married to successful Scottish hockey player Susan Gilmour.
