Matías Arranz Aparicio was an anti-fascist activist born on February 24, 1914, and died on August 13, 2008. He fought in the Spanish Civil War as part of the International Brigades and later served in the French army during World War II. A survivor of Mauthausen and Gusen concentration camps, he endured four years of captivity. After fleeing to France, he dedicated his life to testifying against fascism and Nazism while working as a turner. He returned to Spain for commemorations and continued advocating against fascism until his passing.
