Matilda J. Clerk (March 2, 1916 – December 27, 1984) was a pioneering physician and science educator in Ghana and West Africa. She became the second Ghanaian woman to be trained as a physician in traditional medical practices and was the first woman in Ghana and West Africa to obtain a postgraduate diploma and to receive an academic scholarship for overseas university education. Clerk, alongside other leading women doctors, advocated for maternal and child health care in a male-dominated medical field. Her work inspired a generation of post-colonial Ghanaian women and West African female physicians.
