Matokie Worrell Slaughter (1919-1999) was an American clawhammer banjo player born in Pulaski, Virginia. She performed with her musical family on local radio in the 1940s and gained recognition in the 1960s through recordings featured in banjo anthologies. Slaughter formed Matokie Slaughter & The Back Creek Buddies and released a cassette in 1990. Known for her unique clawhammer style, she influenced many and inspired graffiti artist Margaret Kilgallen, who honored her name in her art. Slaughter passed away shortly after her 80th birthday.
