Matt Kelchner is a former American football coach born on March 5, 1959. He was the inaugural head football coach at Christopher Newport University from 2001 to 2016, amassing a 109-61 record in 16 seasons. Kelchner led the team to ten NCAA Division III playoff appearances and earned Coach of the Year honors seven times. His tenure saw the Captains ranked nationally four times. After a decline in playoff appearances, he stepped down in 2016, having served as the longest-reigning head coach at CNU, subsequently transitioning to an administrative role.
