Matti Kai Kalevi Nieminen, born on February 27, 1952, in Helsinki, is a Finnish high jumper. He was the first Finnish athlete to clear 220 cm outdoors. Known for his competitive years, he represented Vantaan Salamoita and achieved notable success in national championships, including a gold medal in 1979 and several silver and bronze medals. Nieminen has set records, with his personal and national record of 220 cm recorded on June 3, 1979. His career ended due to injuries sustained during a training camp in Spain in May 1980, after which he continued to compete in veterans' events and coach young athletes.
