Maurine Whipple was an American writer born on January 20, 1903, known for her influential novel The Giant Joshua (1941). This work is considered a significant contribution to Mormon literature, portraying the experiences of pioneers and polygamists in the 19th century. Whipple, raised in St. George, Utah, was educated at Dixie College and the University of Utah. After teaching high school, she published her notable novel following a writing conference in 1937. Although she planned a trilogy, only The Giant Joshua was completed, while other works remained unfinished at her death on April 12, 1992.
