Max Lifchitz, born in 1948 in Mexico City, is a classical pianist, composer, and conductor. After studying in Mexico, he moved to the US in 1966 and graduated from The Juilliard School of Music and Harvard University. He has performed across the US, Latin America, and Europe. In 1980, he founded the North/South Consonance Ensemble, focusing on contemporary classical music from the Americas, where he serves as director. Lifchitz has also been a faculty member at Columbia University and the University at Albany, and he won first prize in the 1976 International Gaudeamus Competition.
