He has made significant contributions in Orthopedic oncology, medical training, health administration, medical ethics, and the invention of Custom Mega Prostheses to prevent amputation for bone tumor patients. Awarded the Padma Shri in 2007, he served as the 7th Vice Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences. He received the 'Pharma Leaders Indian of the Year – Orthopedics' accolade at the 2018 Pharma Leaders Power Brand Awards.
