McKinley Mitchell was an American blues and R&B singer born on December 25, 1934, in Jackson, Mississippi. He initially performed gospel music before transitioning to secular genres. His notable works include the 1962 hit 'The Town I Live In', which reached number 8 on the US Billboard R&B chart. In the late 1970s, his self-titled album was positively reviewed for blending soul and blues. After returning to Mississippi, he recorded 'I Won't Be Back for More' in 1984. Mitchell passed away from a heart attack in Chicago Heights, Illinois, on January 18, 1986, at age 51.
