Mehmet Abbasoğlu was a Kurdish politician and the former leader of the Democratic People's Party (DEHAP) in Turkey. Born on June 10, 1955, in Büyükkadikoy, Diyarbakır, he had a military background and became politically active after retiring in 1995. He founded DEHAP in 1997 to continue the political fight after HADEP was banned. Abbasoğlu faced legal issues and served time in prison due to alleged electoral violations. He continued his political work until his death from lung cancer on June 5, 2015.
