He completed his primary and secondary education in Van, then earned his bachelor's degree from Istanbul Technical University in Mining Engineering. Çelik furthered his studies with a master's at Pennsylvania State University and a doctorate at Columbia University, focusing on Ore Dressing and Surface and Colloid Chemistry. He has published over 100 articles in international peer-reviewed journals. On December 27, 2018, he was appointed as the Rector of Harran University by presidential decree.
