Melville Bertram Couvelier was a businessman and political figure in British Columbia, serving as a Social Credit member in the Legislative Assembly from 1986 to 1991. Born in Vancouver, he married Milly Quakenbush in 1948 and operated several businesses, including poultry processing and apparel. He was mayor of Saanich from 1977 to 1986 and briefly served as minister of finance. His political career included failed leadership bids and conflicts culminating in his removal from cabinet in 1991. Couvelier passed away in Saanich at age 80.
