Melvin Earl Dummar (1944–2018) was a Utah man known for claiming he saved Howard Hughes in 1967 and later sought part of Hughes' estate. His assertions led to multiple court battles, all ruling against him, including a 1978 verdict that deemed a will favoring him a forgery. Despite this, a 2005 reinvestigation suggested new evidence that might support his claims. His story inspired the 1980 film 'Melvin and Howard,' where he was portrayed by Paul Le Mat.
