Memos Makris (Agamemnon Makris, 1913-1993) was a prominent Greek sculptor born in Patras. He studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts and became active in the cultural scene of the 1930s. During the German occupation, he participated in the National Resistance. After World War II, he continued his education in Paris but was expelled for his political beliefs and sought asylum in Hungary. There, he established himself as a sculptor reflecting the state's aesthetics through socialist realism. He regained Greek citizenship in 1975, and his first retrospective exhibition in Greece occurred in 1978.
