Meral Akşener is a Turkish politician born in 1956. She served as the Minister of Interior and Vice President of the Parliament. Initially a founding member of the Justice and Development Party, she later left to join the Nationalist Movement Party. In 2016, she led an opposition group within the Nationalist Movement Party against its leader Devlet Bahçeli. Subsequently, she founded the Good Party (İYİ Party) and became its leader. Akşener announced her candidacy in the Turkish presidential elections against the ruling President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
