Mercedes Agurcia Membreño was a Honduran playwright and theater director born on September 8, 1903, in Tegucigalpa. She began writing her own comedies at the age of twelve and is noted for founding the Academy of Music of Santa Cecilia. In Costa Rica, she taught and established a Children's Theater, a similar initiative she implemented in Honduras. Additionally, she adapted stories for radio and wrote twelve regional plays. In 1964, she co-founded the National Theater Company.
