Mererid Hopwood is a notable Welsh poet born in Cardigan in 1964. She originates from Llangynnwr in Carmarthenshire and later moved to Pembrokeshire. In 2001, she became the first woman to win the Bardic Chair at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in Denbigh. She has studied German and Spanish, taught German at the University of Swansea and Spanish in Carmarthenshire. Additionally, she presents literary programs for S4C. In August 2009, she was among the candidates to be crowned Archdruid of the Eisteddfod.
