Merete Jul Ries was a Danish publishing director born on October 11, 1938, in Copenhagen, and she passed away on May 25, 2018. After studying Danish at the University of Copenhagen, she worked at various publishing houses. In 1982, she founded her own publishing house, Rosinante, which gained recognition for publishing high-quality literature, including works by Peter Høeg. Ries served as chairman of the literature committee for the Ministry of Culture and was later a literary director for Munksgaard. She re-acquired Rosinante, which was fully taken over by Gyldendal in 2000, and founded Ries Forlag in 2003.
