She serves as an associate professor in liturgy at the Faculty of Theology, University of Oslo. Thomassen earned her cand.theol. degree in 1993 and completed her doctoral studies in 2008, focusing on inclusive liturgical language in Norwegian worship services. She has held various positions in theological education and has researched topics such as worship, faith, prayer language, feminist theology, and inclusive language.
