Merrill Ashley is a notable American ballet dancer and répétiteur. Born on December 2, 1950, she became a member of the New York City Ballet in 1967 and rose to the position of principal dancer by 1977. Ashley's career spanned until her retirement in 1997, during which time she became one of the last dancers to train under the legendary choreographer George Balanchine. After her performance career, she continued to contribute to the ballet community by coaching his works.
