Mervyn Vicars (1905-1991) was a British conductor and composer, born in London. He studied cello from the age of seven and later traveled to Germany to learn composition and conducting. Vicars worked as a conductor for various British music organizations and served as an assistant to Henry Wood in 1934. He arranged music for radio stations from 1938, enlisted in the RAF in 1940, and co-founded the New Orpheus Concert Group in 1952. Later, he became the artistic director of a record label and continued composing until his death in Swanage.
