He began his career in the youth team of Galatasaray Istanbul, where he played until 1979 before being promoted to the first team. Over his professional career, he played a total of 12 league matches for Galatasaray and was loaned to Mersin İdman Yurdu during the 1980/81 season. Çekiçler concluded his playing career at Kahramanmaraşspor in the 2nd Turkish League after the 1984/85 season.
