Michael Alig (April 29, 1966 – December 24, 2020) was an American club promoter and convicted criminal. He was a leader of the Club Kids, a group of young party-goers who became a cultural phenomenon in NYC during the late 1980s and early 1990s. In March 1996, Alig and his roommate, Robert Joey Riggs, murdered a fellow group member, Andre Melendez, over drug-related debts. Alig pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in October 1997 and was sentenced to 10-20 years in prison, released in 2014. He died of a heroin overdose at age 54.
