Michael Peter Coward was an English geologist known for his research on 'thin-skinned' tectonics. He studied geology at Imperial College London and served as the H. H. Read Professor of Geology at the same institution. Coward was also a Council Member of the Geological Society of London and chaired the UK Tectonic Studies Group. He was awarded The Murchison Fund in 1980 for his contributions to the field. In recognition of his work, a publication titled 'Deformation of the Continental Crust: The Legacy of Mike Coward' was released in 2007.
