Michael Grebanier is an American cellist born on April 26, 1937, in New York. He performed four seasons with the Cleveland Orchestra before becoming the principal cellist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra for fourteen years. In 1977, he joined the San Francisco Symphony as the principal cellist. Grebanier studied at the Curtis Institute of Music under notable teachers and won the Walter Naumburg Award in 1957. He has also performed in various cello concertos and is part of the FOG trio, alongside violinist Jorja Fleezanisin and pianist Garrick Ohlsson.
