Michael J. Novosel Sr. was a distinguished American military veteran notable for his service during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He flew the B-29 Superfortress during WWII and, in an exceptional act of bravery in Vietnam, conducted a medical evacuation under fire, for which he received the Medal of Honor. In a remarkable career shift, he transitioned from a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserve to a chief warrant officer in the Army to serve in Vietnam. In recognition of his contributions, Fort Rucker was renamed Fort Novosel in April 2023.
