Michael John Towey (1902-1960) was a labor leader and Democratic politician from Philadelphia. Born in Ireland, he immigrated to the US at 15, later graduating with an engineering degree. He joined the plumbers' union, eventually becoming its president. He served on the Philadelphia City Council and worked to reform civil service, although with mixed success. Towey enjoyed political success in the 1950s, wherein he was re-elected multiple times. His life ended prematurely due to a heart attack at the age of 58, leaving behind his wife, Pearl Weidmayer.
