Michael Lavalette is a British academic born in 1962, known for his expertise in social work. He was affiliated with the Socialist Workers Party from 1981 to 2018 before joining Counterfire. Lavalette served as a local councillor in Preston, Lancashire from 2003 to 2014. He held the position of Everton Professor of Social and Community Engagement at Liverpool Hope University until his retirement, and is now an Emeritus Professor there, also teaching as a visiting professor at the University of Bethlehem and the University of West Attica in Athens.
