Michael Angelo Morales, born on October 17, 1959, is an American convicted murderer whose execution was scheduled for February 21, 2006, in California. However, just two hours before the execution, the state informed the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals that they could not comply with a federal ruling requiring the involvement of a medical professional in the execution process. This led to a suspension of his execution, which contributed to a moratorium on capital punishment in California, as licensed physicians are ethically barred from participating in executions.
