Michael Otmar Hengartner is a Swiss-Canadian biochemist and molecular biologist, born on June 5, 1966, in St. Gallen. He has been the President of the ETH Council since February 2020. Previously, he served as the Rector of the University of Zurich from 2014 and as President of the Swiss Conference of Universities (swissuniversities) from 2016. His work in academia has contributed significantly to the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology.
