Michael Pelkey, born on March 28, 1940, is recognized as a pioneering figure in the sport of BASE jumping alongside Brian Schubert. The duo made their first jump on July 24, 1966, from El Capitan mountain. Pelkey participated in the 26th annual Bridge Day event on October 15, 2005, where they served as guest speakers. He was scheduled to jump at the 27th Bridge Day event in 2006, but the jump did not occur due to Schubert's tragic death just before it, a result of a parachute malfunction.
