Michael Anthony Petrelis is an American AIDS and LGBTQ rights activist and blogger born on January 26, 1959. Diagnosed with AIDS in 1985, he co-founded ACT UP and organized nationwide protests against homophobic legislation. Active in outing efforts, he gained prominence for disclosing the sexual orientation of public figures. Petrelis advocated for LGBTQ issues in San Francisco, successfully lobbying the city for health initiatives. He founded the AIDS Accountability Project to increase transparency among AIDS service organizations. He also ran for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 2014 and has been recognized for his activism by various publications.
