Michael R. Anastasio (born 1948) is a prominent physicist who led major national science laboratories during critical transitions. He directed Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) from 2002 to 2006, where he contributed to the development of pivotal nuclear weapons and led high-performance computing initiatives. He later became the director of Los Alamos National Laboratory and president of Los Alamos National Security LLC. Anastasio holds a bachelor's degree in physics and advanced degrees in theoretical nuclear physics, and is recognized for his significant contributions to nuclear science and technology.
