Michael R. Matthews, born in 1948, is an honorary associate professor at the University of New South Wales. He specializes in the philosophy of education, history and philosophy of science, and science education. With a passion for HPS, he has spent nearly fifty years teaching and researching solutions to theoretical and curricular issues in science education. His academic journey includes degrees in geology, psychology, and philosophy. He served as the foundation professor of science education at the University of Auckland and retired from UNSW in 2008.
