Michael Rosbash is an American geneticist born on March 7, 1944, who specializes in chronobiology. He is a professor at Brandeis University and a researcher at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. In 1984, his research group conducted studies cloning genes in fruit flies. In 1998, they discovered the gene cycle, the circadian clock, and the light receptor cryptochrome in fruit flies, using genetic mapping. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2003 and, alongside Michael Young and Jeffrey Hall, received the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work on biological clocks.
