Michael M. Szwarc was a prominent Polish-American polymer chemist born on June 9, 1909, in Bedzin, Poland, and passed away on August 4, 2000. He received his engineering degree from the Technical University of Warsaw in 1932 and earned a Ph.D. in organic chemistry in Jerusalem in 1942. After working with Michael Polanyi in Manchester, he immigrated to the USA in 1952, where he became a professor at SUNY, establishing the Polymer Research Center. He coined the term 'Living Polymerization' in 1956, won several awards, and was a member of the Royal Society.
