He contributed significantly to phylogenetic nomenclature literature and has published notable articles on diapsid phylogeny and synapsids' relationships. Laurin earned his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, worked with Robert L. Carroll, and became a CNRS researcher in France. He is an editor-in-chief for Comptes Rendus Palevol and held leadership roles in the International Society for Phylogenetic Nomenclature.
