Michio Furuya was a Japanese ceramic artist born on February 16, 1946. Renowned for his work in Shigaraki pottery, he built over 30 kilns throughout his life, particularly in Shigaraki and Iga. Having studied under Kunio Uchida, Furuya focused on exploring and innovating the pottery-making process, with his first kiln inspired by the ancient Goiminoki kiln located on the border of Shiga and Mie prefectures. He passed away on July 19, 2000.
