She graduated from Saitama Prefectural Girls' High School and later attended Musashino Art University, earning a degree in plastic model design. Akaishi made her debut with the story 'Marshmallow Tea wa Hitori de' in January 1980 in Bessatsu Shōjo Comic. She received the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1994 for her story 'One More Jump,' recognized for its impact on children's manga.
