Mieczysław Kurkowski, also known by the pseudonyms Mietek and Sawa, was a Polish captain and soldier born on February 10, 1908, in Nowa Wilejka. He participated in the September Campaign of 1939 and was a member of the Polish Home Army. Kurkowski fought in the Warsaw Uprising, a pivotal event during World War II, where he ultimately died on September 27, 1944, in Warsaw, contributing to the struggle for Poland's independence.
