Maria Idske (Mieke) van der Weij, born on August 2, 1953, in Rotterdam, is a Dutch radio and television presenter as well as a children's book author. She grew up in Genderen, North Brabant, in a family involved in education, with her father being the headmaster of a school and her mother a teacher. Mieke attended the Gymnasium Camphusianum in Gorkum and later studied Dutch language and literature at the University of Amsterdam, graduating in 1982 with a thesis on late medieval folk literature.
