Miguel Segundo Acosta Saignes was a Venezuelan anthropologist and historian, born on November 8, 1908, in San Casimiro, Aragua, Venezuela. He is recognized as the founder of anthropological studies in Venezuela and the School of Journalism at the Central University of Venezuela. Acosta Saignes received the Casa de las Américas Prize in 1977 for his essay 'Bolívar: Acción y utopía del hombre de las dificultades.' In 1987, he was awarded the National Prize for Popular Culture in Venezuela. He passed away in Caracas on February 10, 1989.
