Miguel Ángel Alfonseca was a Dominican poet, storyteller, playwright, and philosopher born on January 25, 1942, in Santo Domingo. He began studying at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo but did not finish. Alfonseca opposed the Trujillo regime and was arrested and tortured. In 1965, he was a key figure in the rebellion against President Donald Reid Cabral. He co-founded the writers' group El Puño and published works like El enemigo. He later joined La Sociedad Hermética, concluding his literary career, yet left behind several unpublished and recognized works.
