Mihir Chowdhury (FNA, FASc) was an Indian physical chemist born on July 15, 1937, and passed away on March 28, 2017. He served as a professor in the Chemistry Department at Presidency College and was the head of the Physical Chemistry Division at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS). Chowdhury was known for his research on the electronic structure of molecules using optical, magneto-optical, and quantum-mechanical methods. He was a fellow of the Indian National Science Academy and the Indian Academy of Sciences, and received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in 1977 for his contributions to chemical science.
