Richard Michael Cotton, born on April 9, 1951, is a former American pole vaulter who excelled in college and international competitions. He attended the University of Florida, winning numerous titles including the NCAA pole vault championship in 1973 and serving as a pivotal member of the Gators track team. Recognized as a national champion and All-American, he held Florida's pole vault record for fourteen years and represented the USA in the 1976 National Team. After earning a business degree in 1973, he founded an insurance company in Gainesville, Florida.
