Mikhail Ivanovich Afonin, born on October 28, 1939, was a Soviet football player who played as a defender. He began his career at Moscow Dynamo and made his professional debut in 1958 with Znamya Truda in the B class. He played for Lokomotiv Moscow from 1959 to 1960 and then for the Serpukhov team in 1961. From 1962 onward, he played for Moldova/Avântul in Chișinău, appearing in 124 matches in the top and second tiers of Soviet football, before finishing his career at Shinnik Yaroslavl from 1967 to 1969.
