Mikhail Vladimirovich Gzovsky was a Soviet geologist and geophysicist, born on December 17, 1919, in Rostov-on-Don and died in 1971 in Moscow. He was one of the founders of modern tectonophysics, known for his experimental work and teaching. He earned a Doctorate in Geological and Mineralogical Sciences and served as a professor. In 1965, he became the head of the tectonophysics laboratory at the O. Yu. Schmidt Institute of Physics of the Earth of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.
